The NCKU series of Weekly Webinars will continue with the topic: “Senotherapeutics for Vascular Aging”
Introduction:
Aging predisposes to multi-morbidities, including chronic diseases, geriatric syndromes and disabilities, which account for high mortality, morbidity and socioeconomic burden globally. Pharmacological intervention of aging processes and aging-associated pathologies offers a novel approach for treating multi-morbidities simultaneously. Cellular senescence drives aging by inducing chronic inflammation in the tissue microenvironment. Accumulation of senescent endothelial cells in the vasculature impairs angiogenesis and vasodilation, induces patholoqical remodeling of the extracellular matrix, causes barrier disruption and atherogenesis leading to the development of cardiovascular diseases. In this talk, recent advancement on senotherapeutics including findings from our laboratory on their application for vascular aging will be presented.
